AUTHOR'S CONTRACT
If your story or article is selected for an issue of The Style of..., you are asked to print this and sign it in front of a Notary and send it (scanned, in email). Alternatively, you may send the scanned contract with proof of age, showing that you are old enough to sign a contract.
If we do not have a contract from you by the deadline, we will look for someone else to fill your spot.

As always: Do not sign anything unless you completely agree with it. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever sign a contract unless you agree with it completely.

SIMPLIFIED AUTHOR'S CONTRACT

HDWPbooks, a subsidiary of HDWP, Inc. (Hereafter: the Company) wishes sole publication rights to your story _______________________ for a period of one year. The company wishes a non-exclusive right thereafter, as outlined below.

1. You (hereafter: the Author) warranty that you have the right to enter into this agreement. All legal issues of story ownership fall on the Author and not the Company.

2. The Company agrees, upon acceptance of the final draft of the story, to pay the Author by providing one free, quarter page, ad in the issue in which the story first appears. This ad must be 'family friendly.'

3. The Company agrees that if the work is not found to be suitable, all rights revert to the author immediately. The author agrees that, in this case, they are no longer due nor expect any payment. Work not suitable will not appear in any issue. Appearance in an issue is the sole proof of suitability. Editorial decisions rest solely with the Company.

4. The Company agrees to edit, layout, format, and publish the issue. The Company will submit the magazine to any outlets it deems reasonable. The Company has no control over if, or when, these outlets will make the issue available for sale. Only the Company may authorize an outlet.

5. The issue will be offered for free. The Company has no control over prices charged by the outlets.

6. Expenses: The authors are not expected to pay any fees.

7. If the Publisher elects to produce a print version of the issue or an anthology collection containing this story, the publisher may set the price of that book. Authors will, in the case of a printed book, receive 5% of the adjusted income of the book. The formula for adjusted income is: $0 until the cost of printing, shipping, and returns has been met. Once the print costs are met, the publisher will calculate the adjusted income as 50% of monies paid to the publisher. In the case of an eBook anthology, the authors will receive receive 5% of the monies paid to publisher for the eBook. The author’s royalty period on book will last for five years. Royalties are paid quarterly.

8. If the Publisher elects to produce a crowd-funded book which includes this story, the publisher may set the price of the book. Authors will, in the case of a crowd-funded book, receive 5% of the adjusted income of the book. The formula for adjusted income is: $0 until the cost of printing, shipping, and returns, fees to the crowd-funding facilitators, and perks/stretch-goals has been met. Once these costs are met, the publisher will calculate the adjusted income as 50% of monies paid to the publisher. The author’s royalty period on book will last for five years. Royalties are paid quarterly. The Company is allowed to be more generous than these terms.

9. If your story is accepted, we will require a high resolution picture of the author for use in the magazine and in the advertising. We will also want to use your name in connection the publication.
